Seaside beach is a world class family destination, noted for its crystal clear turquoise waters and white sand. Set spart from every other beach community, everything at Seaside is in walking distance. Pavilions stand at the end of each street, nine beach pavilions total that look over the unspoiled beaches. The style at seaside is simply natural and timeless, but more than a design and a way of life. Art galleries, clothing stores, restaurants such as Bud and Alley's, Seaside's Charter School, Post Office, and Chapel all surround the central square and amphitheater of Seaside. Concerts, half marathons, Artwalks, Sand Sculpting, and much more fulfill the calendar at Seaside. A day at Seaside is more than just a day at the beach.
Seaside is unique in such a way that there are no buildings more than four stories tall. The Seaside Interfaith Chapel is the highest building in Seaside. The artists' colony of Seaside, Ruskin Place, was named after John Ruskin, the famous supporter of Victorian Art in London's 19th century. Numerous scenes of The Truman Show (1998) were shot at Seaside. The Truman Show paid for the Seaside Neighborhood School Building from their location fees. Seaside has won various awards: A.I.A. Honor Awards, 1991 for the Town of Seaside, Hybrid Building, Chatham House, and Honeymoon Cottages; Time magazine - Design of the Decade; and Urban Land Institute (ULI) Award for Excellence, October 2003.
